Putting Up Posters

Sun Nov 15, 2009, 7:29 PM
So there's a very exciting event coming up at my school next week. It's being put up thanks in part to students who are volunteering to do everything from set up to bringing food to running the technical stuff (microphones, slide shows, podcasts). I'm going to help set up next week, but at the end of class last Thursday they needed people to get posters hung up, so I volunteered for that as well.

Some facts to know about this. I got the posters to hang up at the end of class, 5 pm. The sun was already setting, twilight lasts about 30 minute or so, and then it's dark. The University I go to is huge, with 36,000 students, it's larger in space than some small towns. The only place you can hang posters are designated poster/flyer hanging spots all of which are located at opposite ends of campus, as well as bulliton boards which are hidden in some of the vending machine pavilions. Poster hanging locations are not any maps of the University, and I never thought to memorize the location of any of them, I knew where two were from passing them frequently, but that was it.

I had to get the posters up that night, but I don't like walking alone after dark. It takes about 20 minutes to walk from one end of campus to the other. So I wanted to get all my posters up before it got dark (in 30 minutes), and I had like a ton of posters. You can hang about six at each of the poster hanging locations, about six on each one, and I still had enough to cover all the spots on campus.

So as soon as I got the posters, I ran to my dorm to get a stapler, then proceeded to race all over campus trying to hang these things as fast as I could. Keep in mind, we were still having warm weather here (high 70s F around 25 C).

I got about halfway done before I run out of staple, and it's dark. I called my boyfriend and ask if he has staples, fortunately, his roommate Jeffrey does. So I then ran to his apartment to get the staples. So I come in, posters in hand, and completely out of breath.

My friends are all there, my group of friends are practically always together, so there's four people in the room who all look up when I come in, all of who want to know what I'm doing with those posters, and why I'm out of breath.

I explained, then asked if someone would walk with me to finish because it was dark, and I was still looking for locations to hang posters. On of my friends said, "Sure thing Roxas."

Eye roll.

But at least I got help, and got the job done.

When we finished, my friend checked and said in all it had taken 2 hours and eight minutes to finish the job, so that would have been 2 minutes game time if this were a mini game. I called her a geek, then offered to buy her ice cream. So we went and got some ice scream, and hopefully people will be be informed about the event and come to it.

Nah you didn't hurt my feelings, I'm on a short leash temperwise at the moment, and after having to get up early to spend most of the day in meeting after endless meeting.

Well thank you for asking, it's nice to be polite. But yeah, I am the kind of person who becomes totally over joyed to get fanart.

Yeah, getting fanart is wonderful ^^ one of the reasons why i enjoy being a witter and an author is so i can show my characters to everyone : D I bet it's wonderful for you to see your characters in picture form x3
